Tarps and Covers
Made from polyethylene, tarps are versatile outdoor covers. No matter the season or the weather, tarps protect a vehicle from moisture and UV rays. A medium- or heavy-duty tarp is treated to be waterproof, UV resistant, rot proof, and mildew resistant, and this combination of qualities allows the material to shield nearly any investment. From covering the bed of a truck, a camp site, a roof, or a vehicle, tarps offer long-term coverage on their own or as part of a canopy shelter.
On their own, tarps are ideal as car, boat, and RV covers. For a car or motorcycle, the heavy-duty material protects temporarily against the elements, but a vehicle may need more coverage. This is the case for seasonal vehicles, and tarps are used as boat and RV covers. When left on their own outdoors, seasonal vehicles experience gradual damage from moisture and UV exposure. Water, accumulating on the surface, and consistent UV rays wear away and crack the surface of the vehicle. Moisture, dry rot, and mold may also accumulate. Tarps, when covering and secured, protect a seasonal vehicle from such damage. The material blocks out water and UV rays and, as it allows for air circulation underneath, prevents mold, mildew, and dry rot from forming.
Although tarps are used as covers on their own, they are often part of a larger shelter. A portable shelter, such as a canopy or carport, consists of a galvanized steel frame and a polyethylene top. While the frame has a lifespan of 10 to 20 years, the canopy portion typically lasts for five. Tarps, in this case, are ideal replacement covers for all types of portable shelters. No matter if you have an enclosed or valance-style canopy, a heavy-duty tarp can be added in place. Consider using heavy-duty polyethylene tarps and covers for the top and sides of such a shelter.
