Silver Tarps
When it comes to protecting your investments outdoors, going with a heavy-duty poly tarp is your best bet for all-around protection. In general, this heavy-duty will most likely be colored silver. Although heavy-duty tarps come in many other colors, silver is the most common. With reflective properties, the material keeps the investment or shelter from overheating. With blue and silver tarps being some of the most common on the market, the latter out of these two is often associated with long-term coverage, while the former is used best for temporary roof protection.
Silver tarps are made from heavy-duty polyethylene. Typically, the material has a 12 by 14 denier count and a 10 to 12 mil thickness. The material, as it needs to protect various investments from water and UV damage, is treated to be waterproof and UV resistant. Additionally, the tarp also has mold, mildew, and rot resistant properties. If a silver tarp is being used to protect an object outdoors, it should be secured in place by bungee cords.
Covering a seasonal vehicle is one use for silver tarps. Although some are made in custom sizes specifically for an RV or boat, using a large tarp with the correct dimensions works just as well. Before purchasing any silver tarps, measure the dimensions of your vehicle first, including any appendages, and find a tarp that has those measurements. Once applied, the material will protect the surface and interior parts from any water or UV damage. Paint, for example, will fade when a boat or RV is exposed to the sun for too long, while water buildup on the surface may cause mold, mildew, or dry rot to start forming. When a tarp is protecting the vehicle, however, both of these elements are kept away from the surface, and the vehicle will have a longer lifespan.
Aside from protecting seasonal vehicles, silver tarps are often used in outdoor canopies. If you need a replacement canopy, measure the dimensions of the shelter first before purchasing a tarp. Once applied, the silver tarp will protect all investments inside from water and UV damage.
