Heavy Duty Tarps

Heavy duty tarps, made out of polyethylene, are used for long-term coverage. If an object or investment, such as a motorcycle or RV, needs to be kept outdoors during the winter and no garage is available, a heavy duty tarp can protect it when secured properly. All heavy duty poly tarps have properties that keep out UV rays and water from causing damage and are also treated to be mold, mildew, and rot resistant. In addition, many custom heavy duty tarps are used for specific outdoor applications, such as protecting a baseball field from rain, covering a truck load, or preventing a season’s worth of hay from rotting.

All heavy duty poly tarps are treated to be waterproof and UV resistant. Exposure to water and UV rays over a long period of time can cause damage – internal and external – to a vehicle or other investment. Not everyone has a garage or enough space in a garage to protect a seasonal vehicle, and a heavy duty tarp provides the amount of coverage one needs. Not only will the material prevent UV and water damage from happening, but the mold, mildew, and rot resistant properties will also keep the surface from experiencing such related damages.

Aside from protecting vehicles and other investments at home, heavy duty poly tarps are often used to cover a truck load. Used on both dump and flatbed trucks, this material keeps wood, asphalt, and other items that cannot be exposed to water dry. Although the tarp needs to be applied differently in each instance, heavy duty polyethylene will last longer when applied tightly – but not stretched too much – over the load.

Baseball fields also need this degree of protection. Although some custom heavy duty tarps are designed in the shape of baseball diamonds and are weighted down along the edges, a large tarp can also have the same effect when applied correctly. Rain can spoil a baseball game not only for the spectators but also for the team. If the field becomes muddy, the team will need to cancel future games and practices until the ground is dry. Applying a tarp over the area prevents it from becoming wet, and the team can go back to practice the next day.

Heavy duty tarps are also useful around the farm. In particular, storing hay is benefitted by this material. The bales should be arranged for the tarp to surround them, and this may be with four or five stacked together. The tarp surrounds this formation and keeps a season’s worth of hay from spoiling. However, the hay stored in tarps should be kept in an area in which water can drain or run off.
