Baseball Tarps

Baseball season starts in the spring and lasts to the fall, but rain will ruin a game no matter the time of year. For patrons, this simply means that the event has been canceled. For the team, however, rain is often disastrous to a baseball field. Rain not only makes the field too muddy to play on, but it keeps the field muddy for days after. As practice and playing games are everything to not only professional athletes but also to high school and little league teams, those managing the field need to have a plan to keep the area from becoming muddy when rain hits.

For most teams, this includes having large tarps on hand to roll out over the area when rain appears. On a large scale for professional teams, the crew managing the stadium will roll out a baseball-diamond shaped tarp with chains or weights on the end. This only takes a matter of minutes but, within that time, the ground goes from being exposed to being covered. Additional tarps may be added over the seats, dugouts, and catcher’s area.

For teams that can’t afford a custom baseball-diamond tarp, the next best option is to have several large baseball tarps on hand. As with all cases in which a field is covered, the area should be measured first before the tarps are purchased. When rain hits, the team or those managing the grounds can roll out these baseball tarps and weigh them down by bricks or any other heavy objects on hand.

Typically, baseball tarps are made from heavy-duty polyethylene and are treated to be waterproof and UV resistant. Having the tarps out over the baseball diamond prevents the area from becoming muddy after the rain. Once the storm has passed, the tarps can be rolled up and put away in storage, and the ground will be dry enough for the team to resume practice or to play another game.
